A Cappella Clinics With Local Composer Judy Rose

Local composer and music teacher at Lane Middle School Judy Rose is back again working with the Grant A Cappella Choir. Following the incredible success of A Jubilant Day last year, Judy wrote another piece dedicated to the Grant A Cappella Choir. Her new piece, My Lord, Good Lord, is stylistically an homage to William Dawson, one of the great composers of African American Spirituals from the mid-twentieth century. Judy’s original text inspires the singers to stay positive and focused, even when people around them try and bring them down. The piece also employs body percussion and whistling, drawn from the Jouba traditions of African American slaves from the Kongo region. The video below is a final rehearsal after doing an hour workshop with the choir on October 3rd, 2019. The Grant A Cappella Choir will sing the world premiere of My Lord, Good Lord as part of their set on October 17th at 7:00 pm at the Fall Choir Concert.
